Jan. 11 Empathetic

The author chose the story of Jesus' virgin birth to highlight the attribute of empathy. Situating ourselves in someone else's circumstances in order to offer them care, comfort and counsel is sometimes terribly uncomfortable. The danger of part of that trouble seeping into our own lives is real. As we endeavor to allow the Holy Spirit to make us more Christlike, we are working to cast off the temptations of the world. My prayer is that those efforts do not cause us to lose sight of our duty to serve our fellow man and that we do not become callous to those who need our guidance so they may see Jesus and experience his transformative power in their lives.
